Correcting Off Color Brick Runs on a Pennsylvania Funeral Home
The brick on this two-story funeral home went up with runs of off-color units blotching the exterior. The company that made the brick paid to have it corrected in 2000. It was photographed again nineteen years later.
2000
What was wrong
The file puts it in one line: many blotchy areas throughout the exterior of the building due to off-colored brick runs. Nothing had failed and nothing was dirty. Whole runs of brick sat outside the range of the brick around them. It was hired by the brick manufacturer, not by the owner.
What was done
Mineral stain, brushed into the brick by hand, unit by unit. Not one color over the wall: the file records lightening some areas and darkening others until the off runs sat inside an acceptable color range.
2019, nineteen years on
What nineteen years prove
Same gable, same side wall, nineteen years apart, and the dark run across the top of that side elevation now reads in range with the brick below it. The mark on the file is Platinum, twenty years and over on the certification scale, and the form was signed in 2020. As of 2026 the work is twenty-six years old.
The signed file
Every certified job gets the same form, signed on the day someone goes back to the building. This is the one for case 004, transcribed beside the scan so it can be read on a phone and by a search engine.
