The store's sign band and tan brick piers in 2019, the brick reading as one even range under the canopy

Blending Off Range Brick at a Michigan Home Depot Entrance

Areas of the brick on this store went up outside the color range the rest of it was built to. The company that made the brick paid to have those areas blended in. It was photographed again nineteen years later and certified then.

2000

  1. A canopy bay in 2000, the pier below the beam a pale cream and the brick above it an orange tan, with open steel deck overhead During, 2000 View this photo larger
  2. A canopy bay in 2000 after staining, the pier and the brick above the opening both reading as one red brown, with the store's exit doors at the left After, 2000 View this photo larger

What was wrong

The brick went up with areas outside its own range. Nothing had failed and nothing was dirty; some units did not sit in the color the wall around them was built to. The file puts it in ten words: there were areas of off-colored brick in the range.

The brick manufacturer hired the work. Not the store and not the mason: the company that supplied the brick paid to correct the run it had shipped, rather than see it taken off a finished building.

What was done

Mineral stain, brushed on by hand, unit by unit. The phrase in the file is we stained the areas for a better blend. Only the units out of range were touched, which is why the entrance still reads as more than one brick color.

What nineteen years prove

The stained brick still holds one range, and the file records no return visit between the two dates. On the certification scale that is Gold, which covers fifteen years and over. As of 2026 the work is twenty-six years old, and the 2019 certification is the most recent record on it.

The signed file

Every certified job gets the same form, signed on the day someone goes back to the building. This is the one for case 270, transcribed beside the scan so it can be read on a phone and by a search engine.
