The front of the Shell Rock house in 2021, cream brick across the tower, the main wall and the entry under snow

Matching a Shell Rock Home Addition to a Cream Brick Wall

The original brick of this Shell Rock house could not be found when an addition went on, so the new entry went up red brown against a cream house. The homeowner had it stained to match in 2013, and it was photographed again and certified eight years later.

Case No. 398
Structure Two-story house
Location Shell Rock, Iowa
Stained 2013
Re-photographed 2021
Elapsed 8 years, Bronze level

2013

  1. A red brown brick pier and porch wall built against the cream brick of the house in 2013, new concrete steps beside them and bare dirt in front Before, 2013 View this photo larger
  2. The same entry in 2013 with the porch wall under the steps carried to the cream of the house while the pier beside the door is still red brown, a bucket and brush on the top step During, 2013 View this photo larger

What was wrong

The house is a cream brick. When the addition went on, the original brick could not be found for a good match, as the file puts it. The new entry went up red brown with a dark flashed range and met the old wall in plain view at the front steps.

What was done

The addition brick was stained for a better match to the house. Mineral stain, brushed on by hand. In the during frame the porch wall has already been carried to the color of the house and the pier beside the door has not.

2021, eight years on

  1. The whole front of the house in 2021 under snow, one cream brick range across the tower, the two-story wall and the entry with its white door, with the certification stamp in the corner After, 2021 View this photo larger

What eight years prove

One range of brick across the front, the entry included. The file's own line: hard to tell where the addition even starts. On the certification scale that is Bronze, seven to nine years. As of 2026 the work is thirteen years old, and the 2021 certification is the most recent record on it.

The signed file

Every certified job gets the same form, signed on the day someone goes back to the building. This is the one for case 398, transcribed beside the scan so it can be read on a phone and by a search engine.
