The front of the house from the street in 2019, its brick reading as one tan and brown range across the garage wing, the dormers and the entry

Correcting Two Off Color Strips on an Evansville Home

The brick on this new house went up with two strips of off colored units, one across the front and one beside the small garage door. The company that made the brick paid to have both corrected. It was photographed again twenty-one years later and certified then.

Case No. 152
Structure Two-story brick home
Location Evansville, Indiana
Stained December 1998
Re-photographed 2019
Elapsed 21 years, Platinum level

1998

  1. The garage end of the house in 1998 with a man walking past it, the brick a pale cream and tan under maroon shutters, the lot bare Before, 1998 View this photo larger
  2. The house from the driveway in 1998, the garage wing, the dormers and the entry all in the same pale tan brick, with no planting on the lot 1998 View this photo larger

What was wrong

The brick went up in more than one color, and in two places it showed. The file names both: a strip of off colored brick in front of the house, and another strip to the left of the small garage door. Nothing had failed. Those units did not agree with the ones beside them.

The brick manufacturer paid for the correction, not the family.

What was done

Mineral stain, brushed on by hand, on the two areas and nowhere else. The line in the file runs to seven words: we color corrected both areas in question. The rest of the wall was left as it was laid.

2019, twenty-one years on

  2. The gable end of the house in 2019 with a mature tree standing in front of it, the brick an even tan and brown blend from the lawn up to the gable window, and the Brickman certified stamp low in the frame 21 Years After View this photo larger

What twenty-one years prove

The file measures the years by the trees. There is not one on the lot in 1998; by 2019 a mature tree shades the gable end. It records a qualification and a win: "a slight resemblance in the band area, but it has held up well", and "the area to the left of the door looks great".

On the certification scale that is Platinum, which covers twenty years and over. As of 2026 the work is twenty-eight years old, and the 2019 certification is the most recent record on it.

The signed file

Every certified job gets the same form, signed on the day someone goes back to the building. This is the one for case 152, transcribed beside the scan so it can be read on a phone and by a search engine.
