The rear of the Ohio house in 2019, its cream and tan brick running up to the eaves of a broad hipped roof

Clearing Mud Splash and Evening Mortar on an Ohio Home

The brick on this house came out uneven, and mud splash had left brown marks along the bottom of the walls. The company that made the brick paid to have it corrected. It was photographed again sixteen years later and certified then.

2003

  1. A side entrance and the brick below the windows in 2003, the wall reading as a flat chalky white with faint darker patches Before, 2003 View this photo larger
  2. Close view of the wall during the 2003 work, the units a warm cream and tan range with pale joints and a downspout at the left edge During, 2003 View this photo larger

What was wrong

The brick came out uneven, and the file lists three separate faults rather than one. The color was off in a few places. Mud splash had left brown marks on the brick. The mortar needed color of its own in places.

A competitor had already been on the house. The file records that the competition was asked to leave because their product looked like paint, and that the homeowner called us in after that. The brick manufacturer paid for the work, not the homeowner.

What was done

Mineral stain, brushed into the brick by hand. The file puts it plainly: the brown areas were stained, and most of the house and its mortar were lightened. Color worked into the units and the joints, so the wall still reads as brick rather than as a surface laid over one.

What sixteen years prove

The house was photographed again in 2019 and certified then. On the certification scale that is Gold, which covers fifteen years and over. As of 2026 the work is twenty-three years old, and the 2019 certification is the most recent record on it.

The signed file

Every certified job gets the same form, signed on the day someone goes back to the building. This is the one for case 293, transcribed beside the scan so it can be read on a phone and by a search engine.
