Darkening Jack Arches on a New Albany Home Garage

The jack arches over the two garage doors of this New Albany house came out lighter and redder than the wall around them. The mason who built it had the arch brick darkened to match in 2000. Photographed again in 2021 and certified Platinum.

What was wrong

A jack arch is a flat arch of upright units cut as special shapes, and the file is direct about the consequence: brick shapes can be off colored because of how they are manufactured. Here the arch over each garage door read as a lighter, redder band across a dark blended wall; the arrows on the prints point at the two courses in question. The mason who laid the wall hired the correction and marked it on the form as a color change, not a complaint.

What was done

Mineral stain, brushed on. The file records one issue and one correction: the jack arches did not match, and the arch brick was darkened until it did.

What twenty-one years prove

Same two doors, same arches, and the flat arch over each now reads as part of the wall rather than a band across it. On the certification scale that is Platinum, the top level, which covers twenty years and over. The 2021 photograph is the most recent record on the job.

The signed file

Every certified job gets the same form, signed on the day someone goes back to the building. This is the one for case 360, transcribed beside the scan.
