Spot Staining Chips and Body on a Maumee White Brick Home

The white brick on this house was a very hard unit with low absorption, and chips and body showed through its texture. The company that made the brick hired a half day of staining on the most obvious spots. It was photographed again sixteen years later and certified then.

Location Maumee, Ohio

2003

  1. The arched entry of the white brick house in 2003, an extension ladder leaning on the left pier of the portico beside the front door During, 2003 View this photo larger
  2. The front of the house in 2003 from the driveway, the hip roof and the entry portico in white brick with the ladder gone After, 2003 View this photo larger

What was wrong

The file records chips and body showing through due to the texture of the brick. A white face on a hard, dense unit: wherever the surface was chipped, the darker body underneath showed. The company that made the brick hired the correction, not the homeowner.

What was done

Mineral stain, brushed on by hand, for half a day, on the most obvious spots. The file is candid about the unit: a very hard brick with low absorption, but enough. Absorption decides whether stain can take at all, and on this brick there was enough.

What sixteen years prove

Same entry, same white brick, and the spots that were stained in 2003 do not read as spots. On the certification scale that is Gold, which covers fifteen years and over. As of 2026 the work is twenty-three years old, and the 2019 certification is the most recent record on it.

The signed file

Every certified job gets the same form, signed on the day someone goes back to the building. This is the one for case 322, transcribed beside the scan so it can be read on a phone and by a search engine.
