Cream and buff brick across the front of the Sparta house in 2019, reading as one blend around an arched window

Blending Two Brick Runs on a Sparta Illinois Home

The brick on this house arrived in two runs, and the two runs did not match each other. The company that made the brick paid to have both of them stained and blended rather than have a wall pulled down. It was photographed again nineteen years later and certified then.

Case No. 235

Location Sparta, Illinois

2000

  2. The whole front of the two-story house in 2000 with two ladders still standing against the left gable, its brick an even tan and cream across both wings After, 2000 View this photo larger

What was wrong

The brick came in two runs and the runs did not agree with each other. Nothing had failed and nothing was dirty. The file puts it in ten words: two different runs of brick were installed on the house.

It was hired by the brick manufacturer, not the owner and not the mason. The company that made the brick treated the color of a finished house as its own problem and paid for staining.

What was done

Mineral stain, brushed on by hand. Both runs were stained rather than one, so the two would meet in the middle: the file records blending the wall by staining both runs to achieve a better match to each other. The stains were custom mixed on site.

What nineteen years prove

Same wall, same blend, and no run reading as the odd one. On the certification scale that is Gold, which covers fifteen years and over. As of 2026 the work is twenty-six years old, and the 2019 certification is the most recent record on it.

The signed file

Every certified job gets the same form, signed on the day someone goes back to the building. This is the one for case 235, transcribed beside the scan so it can be read on a phone and by a search engine.
