The window bay of the Skokie building in 2021, tan brick running unbroken from the new section into the existing wall beyond the vertical joint

Staining New Bark Textured Brick to the Existing Skokie Wall

A design change put new bark textured brick beside the existing wall of this one-story building, and the new brick did not match. The mason who laid it had all of it stained to the existing color in 2002. It was photographed again nineteen years later and certified then.

What was wrong

Nothing had failed. The building's design changed and the new section went up in a dark bark textured brick against an existing wall of tan. The file states it in one line: the new brick did not match. The mason who laid it hired the correction, not the owner.

What was done

Mineral stain, brushed on by hand, across 100% of the new brick. The file calls it a major color change. The target was the existing wall to the right of the bay, and the second 2002 frame shows the new section carried to it.

2021, nineteen years on

  1. The window bay in 2021 with snow on the ground, tan brick running from the stained section across the vertical joint into the existing wall, a window air conditioner in the lower sash and the certification stamp in the corner After, 2021 View this photo larger

What nineteen years prove

Same window bay, same joint, one range across the new brick and the old. On the certification scale that is Gold, which covers fifteen years and over. The file's own phrase: looks great over 19 years later.

The signed file

Every certified job gets the same form, signed on the day someone goes back to the building. This is the one for case 408, transcribed beside the scan so it can be read on a phone and by a search engine.
