The Lansing office in 2019, its brick reading as one red and orange range beneath a dark band of ribbon windows

Staining a Lansing Corporate Office to an Even Range

Nothing on this two-story office had failed. The company that occupies it wanted the brick walls to match better, so the whole facade was stained in 1999 and enhancements were worked into the range. It was photographed again twenty years later and certified then.

What was wrong

Nothing had failed. The file records no complaint and no damage: against Reason for project the box marked is Other, and the issue is set down in nine words. The customer wanted the walls to match better.

It was hired by the business that occupies the building, not by a mason and not by the company that made the brick.

What was done

Mineral stain, brushed on by hand. Not selected units this time but the whole elevation, with lighter and darker notes worked into the range so the wall reads as brick rather than as one flat color. The file puts it in seven words: we added 100% staining and enhancements.

What twenty years prove

Same walls, same range, and a facade that still reads as brick rather than as a coating. 1999 to 2019 is twenty years, which on the certification scale is Platinum, the top rung and the one that starts at twenty. As of 2026 the work is twenty-seven years old, and the 2019 certification is the most recent record on it.

The signed file

Every certified job gets the same form, signed on the day someone goes back to the building. This is the one for case 265, transcribed beside the scan so it can be read on a phone and by a search engine.
