Matching Brick From a Different Run on a Rear Elevation

Brick from a different run went up on the back of this house, so one area of the wall never matched the rest of it. A mason paid to have that area put right in 1999. The same elevation was photographed again twenty years later and certified then.

1999

  1. The back wall of the house in 1999, the courses above the window band reading a deeper red than the lighter, patchier brick running across the wall below it Before, 1999 View this photo larger
  2. The same back wall later in 1999, seen wider, the brick below the window band now carrying the same range as the wall above it, with the chimney and the lower wing beyond After, 1999 View this photo larger

What was wrong

The file puts it in one line: there were areas on the back of the house where the brick installed were from a different run. Nothing had failed and nothing was dirty. The Hired by line reads mason or contractor, so the trade that laid the brick paid to put it right.

What was done

Mineral stain, brushed into the brick by hand, unit by unit. The file is exact about the extent, and the extent is the point: 100% of the brick in one area, rather than a few units spot-matched into the middle of a wall.

2019, twenty years on

What twenty years prove

The mark on the file is Platinum, which covers twenty years and over on the certification scale. The storyline says twenty years later the job still looks as good as the day the crew left it. As of 2026 the work is twenty-seven years old, and the 2019 certification is the most recent record on it.

The signed file

Every certified job gets the same form, signed on the day someone goes back to the house. This is the one for case 163, transcribed beside the scan so it can be read on a phone and by a search engine.
