The front of a two-story brick home in Canton, Michigan in 2019, its brick one red and brown range above deep garden beds

Blending a Brick Repair on a Canton Michigan Home

A patch of repaired brick on this two-story home stood out against the wall around it. The repaired area was stained to match in 1998. Someone came back and signed the file again twenty-one years later.

Location Canton, Michigan

1998

  1. The gable end of the home in 1998, an arched window over a bay window with a copper roof, the brick a red and brown range with dark headers scattered through it Before, 1998 View this photo larger
  2. An applicator on a ladder in 1998, working the brick between the arched window and the porch by hand During, 1998 View this photo larger

What was wrong

A section of brick had been repaired and the repair showed. The file puts it in seven words: the brick repair was extremely noticeable. Nothing was failing and nothing was dirty. The wall simply carried a patch that did not read as part of it.

It was hired by a business rather than by the homeowner, which is what the file records against Hired By.

What was done

Mineral stain, brushed into the repaired brick by hand, so the patch fell back into the range of the units around it. The file is plain about the goal: we stained the repaired area to make it look less noticeable. The camera's date imprint on the 1998 frame puts the work in October that year.

What twenty-one years prove

The same gable, and a patch that still sits inside the range of the brick around it. On the certification scale that is Platinum, which covers twenty years and over. The phrase in the file is that the staining has held up well and will never compromise the brick. As of 2026 the work is twenty-eight years old, and the 2019 certification is the most recent record on it.

The signed file

Every certified job gets the same form, signed on the day someone goes back to the building. This is the one for case 084, transcribed beside the scan so it can be read on a phone and by a search engine.
