Adding Burgundy to the Stone Range on an Ohio Home

The stone on this home went up without the burgundy the customer had chosen from the range. The distributor who sold it paid to have a small percentage of burgundy added rather than have the wall taken down. Photographed again twenty-one years later and certified then.

What was wrong

The customer wanted a burgundy color that was missing from the range. That is the whole complaint in the file, and the 1998 frames show it: grey and tan stone with almost no red in it. This is coursed stone rather than brick, and the distributor who sold it hired the correction.

What was done

Mineral stain, brushed on by hand, one unit at a time. Not a color over the wall: a small percentage of the stone was turned burgundy so the range read as sold. The file's own line is the point: sometimes all it takes to make a difference is to add a small percent of color.

What twenty-one years prove

In the 2019 frames the burgundy units sit scattered through the tan and grey on the entry, the garden wall and the side elevation, the way a blend should read. On the certification scale that is Platinum, twenty years and over. As of 2026 the work is twenty-eight years old, and the 2019 certification is the most recent record on it.
