Matching a Mismatched Brick Run on an Ohio Home with Stone Quoins

Two runs of brick went into this single-story house and one of them did not match the other. The company that made the brick paid to have the off-colored run stained. It was photographed again eighteen years later and certified then.

What was wrong

Two runs of brick went into this house and they did not agree. The file puts it in one line: one of the runs did not match the run that was already installed. Nothing had failed and nothing was dirty. The Hired by line reads brick manufacturer, so the company that made the brick paid to put its own runs right rather than have them torn out.

What was done

Mineral stain, brushed into the brick by hand, unit by unit. The scope in the file is narrow and exact: the off-colored run of brick was stained, so that the two runs would read as one. The camera dated both 2001 frames 10/20/2001.

2019, eighteen years on

  1. The outside corner of the house in 2019, an arched triple window on one face and a service door and garage door on the other, the brick an even red and brown range across both 2019 View this photo larger

What eighteen years prove

The mark on the file is Gold, which covers fifteen years and over on the certification scale. The storyline says it in fewer words: no one would know we ever stained the brick. As of 2026 the work is twenty-five years old, and the 2019 certification is the most recent record on it.

The signed file

Every certified job gets the same form, signed on the day someone goes back to the house. This is the one for case 257, transcribed beside the scan so it can be read on a phone and by a search engine.
