Brick piers and the wall around the front window of an Ohio house in 2019, reading as one even red and brown range

Darkening Light Brick at an Ohio Home's Front Entry

The brick on this house went up with light units scattered through the range that did not belong there. The company that made the brick paid to have them darkened in 2000. It was photographed again nineteen years later and certified then.

Location Ohio

2000

  1. The covered front entry before the work, pale units scattered through the red and brown brick around the door and sidelight Before, 2000 View this photo larger
  2. The same entry after the work in 2000, the pale units darkened so the wall reads as one red and brown range After, 2000 View this photo larger

What was wrong

Some of the brick came out lighter than the rest. Nothing had failed and nothing needed replacing; a scatter of units sat outside the range they were meant to belong to. The file puts it in ten words: there were light brick that did not belong in the range.

It was hired by the brick manufacturer. The company that made the brick treated the color of a finished house as its own problem and paid to correct it.

What was done

Mineral stain, brushed into the light units by hand. The file records the correction in five words: we darkened the light brick. Everything already in range was left alone, which is why the wall still reads as a range rather than one flat color.

What nineteen years prove

Same entry, same wall, and a range that still reads as one. On the certification scale that is Gold, which covers fifteen years and over. The file calls it a small job that mattered a great deal to the homeowner.

The signed file

Every certified job gets the same form, signed on the day someone goes back to the building. This is the one for case 189, transcribed beside the scan so it can be read on a phone and by a search engine.
