Staining Cut Brick on an Ohio Home Where Red Showed
A few brick on this house were cut before they went into the wall, and the red body under the light coated face was reading through. The mason who laid the wall hired the correction. The same window was photographed again seventeen years later.
2002
What was wrong
Cutting a red bodied brick with a light coated face releases brick dust, and the file records what that dust does: it changes the face of the brick. A few of the cut units here were contaminated that way before they were laid, and the red underneath was showing through the buff wall around them. Nothing had failed.
What was done
Mineral stain on the red body color that was showing through, on a few brick. The file is even handed about the scale: this does not have to be a huge problem. The rest of the wall was left as laid.
2019, seventeen years on
What seventeen years prove
Same window, same outside corner, and the cut brick still sit inside the range of the wall around them. On the certification scale that is Platinum, twenty years and over. As of 2026 the work is twenty four years old, and 2019 is the most recent record on it.
The signed file
Every certified job gets the same form, signed on the day someone goes back to the building. This is the one for case 355, transcribed beside the scan so it can be read on a phone and by a search engine.
