Evening Out a Poorly Blended Wall on an Ohio Home

The brick went up and the homeowner turned it down: as laid, it did not blend. The company that made the brick paid to have the color enhanced rather than have the wall torn out. It was photographed again eighteen years later and certified then.

2001

  1. A worker on an extension ladder brushing stain onto the cream brick side wall of the single-story house in 2001, the hipped roof running back over bare graded dirt and two arched windows on the end wall to the right During, 2001 View this photo larger
  2. The corner of the house in 2001 with the work under way, three tall arched windows set under radiating brick arches along the end wall and the cream brick around them reading unevenly light and dark During, 2001 View this photo larger

What was wrong

The file puts it in one line: the homeowner rejected the brick because of poor blending. Nothing had failed and nothing was dirty. The wall was new and the range was wrong. The Hired by line reads brick manufacturer, so the company that made the brick paid to put it right.

What was done

Mineral stain, brushed into the brick by hand, unit by unit, on a house still standing on bare graded dirt. The file records the correction in one line: we color enhanced most of the brick on the house. It went both ways, not one wash of color over everything.

What eighteen years prove

The mark on the file is Gold, which covers fifteen years and over on the certification scale. The storyline is the crew's own: this is a job where patience and artistic flair is needed, lightening some brick and darkening others to create a seamless blend. As of 2026 the work is twenty-five years old, and the 2019 certification is the most recent record on it.

The signed file

Every certified job gets the same form, signed on the day someone goes back to the house. This is the one for case 259, transcribed beside the scan so it can be read on a phone and by a search engine.
