The front of the Michigan house in 2019, its brick reading as one red and brown range across the porch and gables

Matching Off Range Brick on a Michigan Home with Arched Bays

The brick on this house went up with off-colored units scattered through the range. The company that made the brick paid to have them stained to match rather than torn out. It was photographed again twelve years later and certified then.

2007

  1. The garage wall of the house in 2007 with its brick arches turned and the openings not yet fitted, pale salmon and cream units scattered through the red range Before, 2007 View this photo larger
  2. A ladder set against the same garage wall in 2007 while the work is under way, an applicator in a Masonry Cosmetics shirt at the right edge During, 2007 View this photo larger

What was wrong

The file puts it in seven words: there were off-colored brick in the range. Nothing had failed and nothing was dirty. In the 2007 frames the wall above the garage arches runs pale salmon and cream against the reds beside it, on a house still being finished.

It was hired by the brick manufacturer, not the owner and not the mason. The company that supplied the brick treated the color of a finished wall as its own problem, and paid for staining over tear-out.

What was done

Mineral stain, brushed on by hand, unit by unit. Not one color over the wall: the off-color units were brought into the range the brick around them was already in. The phrase in the file is eight words: we stained the off-colored areas to closely match.

What twelve years prove

Same house, same wall, and a range that still reads as one. On the certification scale that is Silver, which covers ten years and over. As of 2026 the work is nineteen years old, and the 2019 certification is the most recent record on it.

The signed file

Every certified job gets the same form, signed on the day someone goes back to the building. This is the one for case 273, transcribed beside the scan so it can be read on a phone and by a search engine.
