Matching Off Color Brick on an Ohio Animal Clinic

A large part of the brick on this clinic did not match the rest of the building. The owner had every off-colored unit stained to match in 2009, on several recipes. It was photographed again ten years later and certified then.

2009

  1. The side wall of the clinic in 2009 before staining, the lower brick to the left of the door a pale buff and the brick right of the door a red blend, with a camera date of 08/26/2009 burned in Before, 2009 View this photo larger
  2. The same side of the clinic later on 08/26/2009, the lower brick one red blend from the left end past the door to the corner pier, a bucket and a stool left on the sidewalk After, 2009 View this photo larger

What was wrong

The lower wall along one side of the clinic had been laid in a pale buff brick. The corner piers and the rest of the building were a red blend. The file records it in one line: the owner was looking for a better match for a large part of the building. The form ticks Addition or Makeover, not Complaint. Nothing had failed. It did not match.

What was done

Mineral stain, brushed on by hand. The file says several recipes were created to stain 100% of the off-colored brick. A blend is not one color, so matching it takes more than one recipe, worked in unit by unit until the stained run carries the same spread of tones as the wall beside it. The two 2009 frames were taken the same day, 08/26/2009 by the camera's own date, one in the early afternoon and one in the evening.

What ten years prove

Same side of the building, same door, same run of windows to the corner pier. The stained section and the original red blend read as one wall. On the certification scale that is Silver, which covers ten years and over. As of 2026 the work is seventeen years old, and the 2019 certification is the most recent record on it.

The signed file

Every certified job gets the same form, signed on the day someone goes back to the building. This is the one for case 328, transcribed beside the scan so it can be read on a phone and by a search engine.
