Red brick across the front of the house in 2019, cast stone arches over the entry and a tall arched window beside it

Evening Out an Off Color Range on a Michigan Home

The brick on this house arrived with off-colored units inside the delivered range, and they read as pale patches across the walkout wall. The brick manufacturer hired the correction in 2002. The house was photographed again seventeen years later and certified then.

2002

  1. The walkout wall at the back of the house in 2002, pink brick under pale grey siding with washed-out units through the lower courses and rough unplanted grass along the foot Before, 2002 View this photo larger
  2. The same walkout wall in 2002 seen from further along, a worker on a ladder at the brick line on the left, the courses to his right reading as one even tone past the two sets of doors After, 2002 View this photo larger

What was wrong

The brick delivered to this house held units that were off color inside the range. On the walkout wall at the back they sat as pale, washed-out patches against the deeper pink around them. The brick manufacturer hired the correction, not the homeowner.

What was done

Mineral stain, brushed on brick by brick, to bring the discolored units into the blend of the wall around them. The file puts it in one line: the discolored brick was stained for a better blend.

2019, seventeen years on

  1. The front of the house in 2019, red brick running through the gable and the arched entry with cast stone arches and keystones, clipped evergreens and mums in pots on the step, a paver walk crossing to the drive After, 2019 View this photo larger
  2. The back of the house in 2019, the same walkout brick reading as one even red under the siding, a mown lawn and planted beds where the rough grass was, stone-clad porch columns and a spiral stair added at the right 17 Years After View this photo larger

What seventeen years prove

In 2019 the house was photographed again, front and back. The file records no peeling, no cracking and no maintenance in that time, and marks it Platinum on the certification scale. As of 2026 the work is twenty-four years old, and the 2019 revisit is the most recent record on it.

The signed file

Every certified job gets the same form, signed once someone has gone back to the building. This is the one for case 227, transcribed beside the form page so it can be read on a phone and by a search engine.
