The garage elevation of the Michigan house in 2019, its brick an even salmon and tan range under a hipped roof

A Michigan Buff Brick House Taken to Salmon

The homeowners had gone off the white buff clay brick their house was built in, and they did not want it painted. All of the brick was stained a salmon color in 2003. It was photographed again sixteen years later and certified then.

2003

  1. A side wall of the house in 2003, its clay brick a cold white buff below grey lap siding, with a sliding door and a glass block basement window Before, 2003 View this photo larger
  2. An outside corner during the 2003 work, a ladder against the near face and the return wall carrying warm tan color over the pale brick During, 2003 View this photo larger

What was wrong

Nothing had failed and nothing was dirty. The brick was white buff clay, the house was built in it, and the people living there had stopped wanting to look at it. The file records the reason as an addition or makeover, and the issue in one line: they wanted a makeover, but wanted an alternative to painting.

What was done

Mineral stain, brushed into the brick by hand. The file is exact about the extent, and it is the whole house rather than a repair to a few areas: 100% of the brick, stained a salmon color. The 2003 frames catch it mid-job, with one face still the original buff and the return wall already carried over.

What sixteen years prove

Same house, same brick, and a color that is still the color it was mixed to. On the certification scale that is Gold, which covers fifteen years and over. As of 2026 the work is twenty-three years old, and the 2019 certification is the most recent record on it.

The signed file

Every certified job gets the same form, signed on the day someone goes back to the building. This is the one for case 181, transcribed beside the scan so it can be read on a phone and by a search engine.
