The front of the Indianapolis house in 2019, its brick reading as one even cream and grey range

Evening Out Blotchy Brick on an Indianapolis Home

The brick on this house went up blotchy, pale areas sitting among dark ones. The company that made the brick paid to have it evened out rather than torn off. It was photographed again eighteen years later and certified then.

What was wrong

Nothing had failed and nothing was dirty. The house was still being finished, and the brick did not agree with itself. The file puts it in seven words: the blotchy areas of brick were unacceptable.

It was hired by the brick manufacturer, not the homeowner and not the mason. A brick company decided the color of a house it had supplied was its own problem, and paid for staining over tear-out.

What was done

Mineral stain, brushed on by hand, unit by unit, and in both directions at once. The file records that the brick was lightened and darkened for a better blend: the pale areas came down, the dark ones came up, and the wall read as one range.

What eighteen years prove

Same house, same brick, and a blend that is still a blend. On the certification scale that is Gold, which covers fifteen years and over. The file notes a few obstacles worked through along the way, and records that the home looked good eighteen years on. As of 2026 the work is twenty-five years old.

The signed file

Every certified job gets the same form, signed on the day someone goes back to the building. This is the one for case 309, transcribed beside the scan so it can be read on a phone and by a search engine.
