The brick bay window of the home in 2021, red brown brick reading as one range around white window frames with stone keystones above them

Darkening 120 Light Brick Into Range on a Home Wall

Around 120 brick in this wall came out lighter than the run around them. The manufacturer who made the brick paid to have those units darkened into range in 2010. The wall was photographed again eleven years later and certified then.

2010

  1. The brick bay window in August 2010 before staining, pale blotchy units scattered through the red brown wall above the stone keystones and on the flat wall beside the bay Before, August 2010 View this photo larger
  2. The same bay window later on August 13, 2010, the scattered light units darkened so the wall reads as one red brown range from the upper windows down to the keystones After, August 2010 View this photo larger

What was wrong

Scattered through the bay and the wall beside it were 120 brick that fired lighter than the run around them, pale and blotchy against a red brown wall. Nothing had failed. The brick manufacturer hired the correction, not the homeowner.

What was done

Mineral stain, brushed by hand onto the 120 light units only, darkening each one into the overall color range. The brick around them was left as it was. Both 2010 frames carry the same camera date, August 13, the wall before and after on one day.

What eleven years prove

The file's own storyline: the 120 brick all get wet, look natural and even get dirty just like the unstained brick right next to them. That is the test of a mineral stain, that it weathers with the wall instead of sitting on it. On the certification scale that is Silver, which covers ten years and over.

The signed file

Every certified job gets the same form, signed on the day someone goes back to the building. This is the one for case 371, transcribed beside the scan so it can be read on a phone and by a search engine.
