The garage addition in 2019, its brick reading as one warm tan and brown blend across three bays

Matching a Large Home Addition on Commerce Road

A very large addition went up on this house in brick that did not match the house it joined. The homeowner paid to have the new brick brought to the old rather than lived with. It was photographed again eleven years later and certified then.

Case No. 228
Structure Home addition, three garage bays
Location Commerce Road
Stained 2008
Re-photographed 2019
Elapsed 11 years, Silver level

2008

  1. The new garage wing still under construction in 2008, its brick a flat pale grey and cream, with the three door openings unfitted and a pickup parked on bare ground Before, 2008 View this photo larger
  2. The same wing later in 2008 with the doors and lanterns fitted, tan, brown and near-black units now running through the courses that had been one flat grey After, 2008 View this photo larger

What was wrong

The addition was large, and the brick it went up in did not sit right beside the house it joined. Nothing had failed and nothing was dirty. The file records the homeowner looking for a better match for the brick that was used on the addition to their home.

It was hired by the homeowner. Not a builder settling a complaint and not the brick company: the person living there decided the join between the new work and the old house was worth correcting.

What was done

Mineral stain, brushed on by hand. Not one color across the wall, either. The phrase in the file is several different colors specific to their home, which is what it takes to meet an existing house across a range rather than on a single tone.

2019, eleven years on

What eleven years prove

Same wall, and a blend that is still the blend it was mixed to. On the certification scale that is Silver, which covers ten years and over. The file's own closing note is that eleven years later the house is still looking great. As of 2026 the work is eighteen years old, and the 2019 certification is the most recent record on it.

The signed file

Every certified job gets the same form, signed on the day someone goes back to the building. This is the one for case 228, transcribed beside the scan so it can be read on a phone and by a search engine.
