The gable end of a Carmel, Indiana home in 2019, its brick an even red range around the arched window

Bringing Blotchy Walls Into Range on a Carmel Home

The brick on this house went up blotchy, wall after wall. The company that made the brick paid to bring it into one color range rather than have it torn off. It was photographed again sixteen years later and certified then.

  2. The whole front of the house in 2003 on a newly graded lot, the brick reading as one warm range across both wings and the entry 2003 View this photo larger

What was wrong

The brick went up blotchy. Nothing had failed and nothing was dirty; the units did not agree with each other, and the file records it as a whole-house problem rather than one bad wall.

It was hired by the brick manufacturer, not the homeowner and not the mason. The company that made the brick treated the color of a finished house as its own problem, and paid for staining over tear-out.

What was done

Mineral stain, brushed on by hand, unit by unit. The file describes a target rather than a color: an acceptable color range for the house. On a blotchy wall that means bringing the off units into the range of the ones beside them, so the elevation reads as one brick again instead of as a patchwork.

What sixteen years prove

Same house, same gable, same arched window, and a wall that still reads as one range rather than as patches. The note on the file is short: sixteen years later the stain is still holding up. On the certification scale that is Gold, which covers fifteen years and over. As of 2026 the work is twenty-three years old, and the 2019 certification is the most recent record on it.

The signed file

Every certified job gets the same form, signed on the day someone goes back to the house. This is the one for case 077, transcribed beside the scan so it can be read on a phone and by a search engine.
