Color Correcting the Radial Shapes on an Ohio Hospital

The rounded brick piers on this hospital were laid lighter than the face brick around them. The brick manufacturer paid to have the side facing the highway corrected in 2001. It was photographed again in 2014 and 2019, and certified Platinum in 2020.

What was wrong

The file calls them radial shapes: the rounded piers that stand between the curtain wall bays. They were laid a lighter color than the face brick, and the brick manufacturer, not the hospital, hired the correction.

What was done

A test panel first, so the blend could be checked and the hospital could approve the color. Then each pier brick was stained individually, on one side of the building only. The hospital wanted the side facing the highway corrected and nothing else, and the file records that limit.

What eighteen years prove

The piers were photographed in 2014 and again in 2019, and in both sets they read as one range with the face brick. Platinum on the certification scale is twenty years and over; the form was signed in 2020. As of 2026 the work is twenty-five years old, and the 2020 certification is the most recent record on it.

The signed file

Every certified job gets the same form, signed on the day someone goes back to the building. This is the one for case 119, rendered from the case booklet and transcribed beside it so it can be read on a phone and by a search engine.
