The brick paver steps at the house entrance in 2019, treads and coping reading in the same red range as the pavers around them

Tinting Paver Coping Shapes to Match at an Ohio Home

The shaped units on this entrance, the step treads and the coping, went in a different color from the pavers around them. The company that made the brick paid to have them tinted rather than lifted and relaid. It was photographed again twenty-one years later and certified then.

What was wrong

The steps and the entrance walk went in as brick pavers. The shaped units, the treads and the coping that turn the edge of each step, came out a different color from the field around them. The file puts it in eight words: the paver tread coping shapes didn't match.

The brick manufacturer hired it, not the homeowner. A brick company decided the color of the shapes it had supplied was its own problem, and paid for tinting over lifting and relaying the stoop.

What was done

Mineral stain, brushed on by hand, on the shapes only. The field pavers were left alone. The line in the file is that we tinted the shapes the right color to match the rest of the range.

What twenty-one years prove

This is paving: walked on, shovelled, salted, driven up to. Harder service than any wall. The file makes the point itself, that pavers have a much different weat pattern than vertical brick. Twenty-one years on, the treads and coping still sit in the range they were tinted to. On the certification scale that is Platinum, which covers twenty years and over.

The signed file

Every certified job gets the same form, signed on the day someone goes back to the property. This is the one for case 281, transcribed beside the scan so it can be read on a phone and by a search engine.
