Staining the Gable Peak and Headers on an Ohio Home

The brick in the gable peak of this house went up with units outside the range around them. The company that made the brick hired the correction rather than leaving the wall as laid. It was photographed again seventeen years later and certified then.

Case No. 252
Structure Single-story house
Location Ohio
Stained April 2002
Re-photographed September 2019
Elapsed 17 years, Platinum level

2002

  1. The brick gable end in 2002, pale and dark units scattered through the courses and around the arched window header, with a step stool and a ladder on the grass below Before, 2002 View this photo larger
  2. The same gable later in 2002, the brick in the peak and the arched header reading as one range beside the front entry door After, 2002 View this photo larger

What was wrong

The file gives it in one line: there were off-colored brick within the range. The 2002 frame shows where. Single units in the gable read pale or dark against the courses either side, and the same scatter runs through the arched header over the window.

What was done

Mineral stain, brushed on by hand. The file records one hundred percent of the brick in the peak and the window headers treated, which is the whole of the masonry on this elevation. Both 2002 frames carry the same camera date, 27 April.

2019, seventeen years on

  3. The gable and the front entry in 2019, brick running unbroken from the roof rake down past a stone bench and a gravel bed to the lawn After, 2019 View this photo larger
  4. Looking up the left roof rake in 2019 at close range, brick courses running under the soffit boards to the top of the arched header at the right After, 2019 View this photo larger
  5. The arched brick header over the window at close range in 2019, the ring of rowlock units and the field around it holding the same range out to the eave 17 Years After View this photo larger

What seventeen years prove

Same gable, same arched header, one range from the rake boards down to the gravel. The revisit line on the file reads: still no peeling, cracking or maintenance. The form marks Platinum, the top of the certification scale. As of 2026 the work is twenty-four years old.

The signed file

Every certified job gets the same form, signed on the day someone goes back to the building. This is the one for case 252, transcribed beside the scan so it can be read on a phone and by a search engine.
