The corner of the single-story brick home in Indiana in 2019, tan brick running from a shuttered gable window along the side wall under a vinyl gable

Leveling Blotchy Brick on an Indiana Ranch Home

The brick on this single-story home went up blotchy and uneven. The brick manufacturer paid to have it leveled out, some units lightened and others darkened. It was photographed again twenty-one years later and certified then.

What was wrong

The brick on this home was blotchy and uneven. That is the whole complaint in the file, and the December 1998 photographs above show it: dark units scattered through a light wall with no pattern to them. The brick manufacturer hired the correction, not the homeowner.

What was done

The file's phrase is leveled out. Some units were lightened and others darkened until the wall read as one range. The evidence notes mark two areas: the gable end, where brick was darkened and lightened for a better overall blend, and the rear wall, which had quite a few blotchy patches color corrected.

What twenty-one years prove

One range across the gable end, the corner, the rear wall and the porch. The file's note on the 2019 visit reads: it still looked great. On the certification scale that is Platinum, twenty years and over. The 1998 gable end frame carries the camera's own date in its corner, 12 17 '98.

The signed file

Every certified job gets the same form, signed on the day someone goes back to the building. This is the one for case 048, transcribed beside the form so it can be read on a phone and by a search engine.
