Staining Tan Window Sills Grey on a Stone Home
The window sills on this manufactured stone house came out tan, and tan was wrong against the rest of the stone. The brick distributor had all nine of them stained grey in 2009. The house was photographed again eleven years later and certified then.
2009
What was wrong
Nothing had failed. The window sills had come out tan, and against a stone blend of grey, brown and charcoal, tan read as a mistake on every window. The file puts it plainly: the sills needed to change to something that better matched the rest of the stone. The brick distributor hired the correction, not the homeowner.
What was done
Mineral stain, brushed on by hand, on all nine window sills. The file records the color in one word: grey. The point the file makes is the substrate. The process is proven on absorbent brick and mortar, and this is its example of the same process holding on manufactured stone.
2020, eleven years on
What eleven years prove
Same elevation, same sills, and the grey still sitting inside the range of the stone around it. On the certification scale that is Silver, which covers ten years and over. As of 2026 the work is seventeen years old, and the 2020 certification is the most recent record on it.
The signed file
Every certified job gets the same form, signed on the day someone goes back to the building. This is the one for case 330, transcribed beside the scan so it can be read on a phone and by a search engine.
