Matching Two Runs of Split Face Block at Granger Family Medical

Two runs of split faced block went up on this medical building in colors that did not match. The mason who built it paid to have the off-colored run stained to the rest. It was photographed again eleven years later and certified then.

2008

  1. An outside corner where two runs of masonry meet, the left face a warm tan and orange range and the right face a cooler grey brown streaked with white, a course of split faced block running across both Before, 2008 View this photo larger
  2. Two wings of the single storey building under construction around a courtyard of bare earth, a new kerb and walk poured and the masonry base course finished under lap siding During, 2008 View this photo larger

What was wrong

Two runs of split faced block went up on the same building and they did not agree with each other. Nothing had failed and nothing was dirty. The file records it in one line: there were two different runs of split faced block installed.

It was hired by the mason or contractor, not the owner. The trade that laid the block carried the cost of putting the color right.

What was done

The off-colored run was stained to the rest, by hand, unit by unit. The file marks this one out as a little different from the jobs we normally do, because the surface taking the stain was split faced block rather than brick.

2019, eleven years on

  1. An inside corner of the building in 2019 where two wings meet, brick above a continuous band of split faced block, with clipped shrubs and mulch beds along the base 2019 View this photo larger
  2. A long wall of the building running away from the camera in 2019, the brick reading as one tan and orange range across its whole length above the split faced block base, a flowering tree in the bed alongside 2019 View this photo larger
  3. A flat stretch of wall in 2019 with one blinded window, the split faced block course carrying straight through below the sill and the brick above and below it holding the same range 2019 View this photo larger
  4. A wall under a deep eave in 2019 with a downspout running down it, the split faced block course crossing behind the shrubs and the brick above it even from end to end 11 Years After View this photo larger

What eleven years prove

Same building, same base course, and a run that still sits with the ones beside it. On the certification scale that is Silver, which covers ten years and over. As of 2026 the work is eighteen years old, and the 2019 certification is the most recent record on it.

The signed file

Every certified job gets the same form, signed on the day someone goes back to the building. This is the one for case 297, transcribed beside the scan so it can be read on a phone and by a search engine.
